CV - Life in Construction

Experienced & Always Learning

I've been working in the Construction Industry since 1999 and have a broad practical experience across several roles, but I have specialised in Project Planning roles since 2004. This role has fast tracked my construction experience as it requires good knowledge and understanding of all stages and processes in construction - seeing what stakeholders responsibilities are, why and when they need to do things. As a planner, I see myself as a facilitator for others to carry out their roles effectively and this requires an ability to communicate well with a variety of different people and personalities to get both the information I need and what the project needs.

London City

Founder / Director, CSN Project Planning

January 2019 - Present

After leaving InCo Projects (a company I co-founded) and after a brief stint as Planning Director at Delta Consulting Group, I went back to working as a freelance Project Planner.

Having moved out of London and with a new born baby girl, the aim was to simplify my life but still be able to offer experience to existing and new clients in the construction industry.

I specialise in providing a logical, progressive approach to project planning and contract administration. I am very well experienced administering a planning role under both JCT and NEC forms of contract, utilising an NEC approach in either as good practice.

Co-Founder / Director, InCo Projects

November 2014 - December 2018

InCo Projects was a new venture to provide Construction Management Services with a true project planning and innovation focus to the industry.
InCo Projects was set up as we believed clients required a higher level of service than current contractors and consultants provide and we were working towards becoming the benchmark in delivering projects with transparency and collaboration.

A big part of this is working towards changing the way construction projects are procured and delivered. We wanted to serve clients who would like more transparency in their projects and this is where we could offer value.

Our core values stem from Collaboration, Openness, Innovation and Creativity and we look to demonstrate this in all aspects of our business. Under CM, we successfully delivered the Novotel, Canary Wharf - a flagship 40 storey London hotel for Accor and a Premier Inn in Hayes for Whitbread.

Unfortunately we had to scale back operations after the first few projects as a result of Brexit and our client focus. Although the business ultimately did not go on to become an ongoing success, the experience for me was invaluable.

Founder / Project Planner, CSN Project Planning

May 2008 - October 2015

The first foray into working freelance. Developed into an expanding team of Project Planners and grew the business with a number of clients.

Initially, on Lewisham BSF (Building Schools for the Future) with Costain between May 2008 - December 2010, where I was part of the team working on 9 schools under the scheme. Following a snowboarding season in Whistler, BC between January to May 2011, I returned to London where I worked on the Moorgate Shaft Enabling Works - an integral section of Crossrail at what would become part of the Liverpool Street Station Elizabeth Line stop.

It was during this project that I started to grow the business taking on my first employees in 2013 as more work became available from other clients and contacts which I could not carry out on my own.

By 2015, I had grown the business to myself plus 5 full time planners and 2 contract with more room to grow. However it was at this point that I took the decision to merge my project planning business with the Construction Management business I was also working on - InCo Projects.

Planner, Costain

July 2004 - March 2007

Worked as a Planner for Costain Ltd on a variety of successful tenders & projects, some of which are listed below;

The NHS Treatment Centre at QMC £33m; A new Treatment Centre on the Queen’s Medical Centre site in Nottingham worth £33m.This was an NEC form of contract, which required monthly programme updates. Based on site, I also produced forecasts and assessed the impact of delays and methods to mitigate delays. During this time I also produced the programme for a new build office block at Paragon Business Village, Wakefield.

Dickens Heath, Solihull £28m; a mixed-use development of 212 units, comprising a combination of apartments, townhouses and retail outlets. I used 3D modelling (Sketch Up) to demonstrate the planned sequencing required to build the project, and found this a useful presentation tool. Costain won the tender but the client put the project on hold.

Sheffield Children’s Hospital £10m; a mixture of New Build and Refurbishment. Another NEC form of contract, I was responsible for monitoring and updating progress and producing update programmes.

Max Park, Corby £12m; 2 Spec units comprising 200,000 sq.ft warehouses with 10,000 sq.ft. offices. Planned the project through from tender stage and monitored to contract completion. The project finished on time.

Greyfriars Road, Coventry £12m; 137 New Build apartments. Took over the monitoring and progress updating approx halfway through the contract and produced output forecasts based on site labour to aid management in ensuring subcontractors provided enough manpower to finish the project on time.
